The Globe reports that the Conservatives are sending potential candidates to campaign training school, in preparation for a potential spring election. According to the article, candidates learn how to dress, how to handle an all-candidates debate, how to bring out the vote on election day, and how to use the Constitutent Information Management System. Candidates also "are asked to assimilate the party's policies and told how to deal with the news media". You have been assimilated!

The article also reported that the Tories are experimenting with a new slogan, "Getting Things Done For All Of Us". This slogan currently appears on their web site. Compare this with the main slogans on other party sites:

• Liberal: Healthy Environment, Healthy Canadians
• NDP: Achieving Kyoto and beyond
• Green Party: no slogan; the headline is "Elizabeth May goes One On One with Peter Mansbridge"
• Bloc Quebecois: J'Investis Pour Le Quebec

You will notice that the Liberals and NDP are focusing on the environment. It occurs to me that many voters will be less concerned about climate change now that normal winter temperatures have returned to Canada. (As I write this, it's -12C out.) Dealing with climate change is still important, or perhaps even essential, but global warming seems less real when it's freezing out.
