I had no idea

The Star reports today that nearly 5000 homes and businesses remain without power in Toronto after Thursday's storm. Many of these homes are in the Playter Estates district of Toronto - near Broadview and Danforth. The article includes this photo of a downed power line on Playter Blvd.

I live about a block or two west of the subject of this article. She and her family are about to face their third night without power. All their food has gone bad. About 300 other residents of the neighbourhood also lack power, including many vulnerable seniors.

All this misery within a few hundred yards of my safe, comfortable apartment home. I feel very lucky.
