The other day, the Globe reported that Ontario Progressive Conservative leader John Tory is attempting to position his party as more moderate than in the days of Mike Harris. If he can succeed in doing this, he might recapture the majority that the party held during the days of Bill Davis.
To do this, he will need to reassure voters that the PCs intend to remain moderate, come what may. If the Ontario Tories start to slide in the polls, there will always be the temptation to release the Visigoths and turn the party hard right again. (Recall that Ernie Eves started off trying to moderate his party's platform.)
